On Diseases of the Lungs and Pleuræ Including Consumption

To those who may have reaped pleasure and benefit from the reading of previous editions of Dr. Powell's work on diseases of the lungs it will not be necessary to do more than record the fact that the new edition is excellent reading and quite up to date as regards treatment, etc. In the preface to this edition there occurs a sentence which may well be taken to heart in these 'microbic' days:?"The author has strenuously endeavoured to withdraw the attention from the too exclusively ' microbic' view of phthisis, which practitioners and through them the public are coming to hold. "While too much importance cannot be attached to bacteriological examination in cases of obscurity or doubt, yet in the run of cases of phthisis no information whatever
